Sao Paulo, Brazil by Ednir Lucia Machado
Sao Paulo is the third largest city in the world, which speaks from itself, you find everything you are looking for, has a tremendous cultural live, it is kind of chaotic, and it is the richest city in Latin America. Some of our famous monuments areThe Sugar Loaf, Corcovado Hill, Copacabana and Ipanema beaches in Rio de Janeiro, Pelourinho and Itapua beach in Salvador, Iguassu Falls in Iguassu, Pantanal in Mato Grosso do Sul State, Amazonoa Rain Forest in Amazonia State, and the lively night live and huge buildings in Sao Paulo, the financial centre of Brazil. If a friend were to come and visit me here, I would show them the handicraft market, would take them to several typical restaurants and according to the person's taste, would take to some samba night shows.
In Brazil the three main languages are Portuguese, English and Italian. Catholic and Protestant are the main relgions, but there are many others. For fun, Brazilians will meet friends and the rest will depend on each person's taste: some go out for dinner, others go for cultural events, others for dancing in discos, cinemas, etc. Our diet consiste of beans with rice daily, except on the weekends, accompanied by meat, chicken or fish and salat or vegies. My favorite dish isn't a dish, but a way of eating in Brazil, it's called CHURRASCO. You pay a price per person and you eat as much meat as you can, and there is also a salad buffet. Our most popular sports are Soccer, Sailing, Surfing. Soccer is the brazilians passion, and Sailing and Surfing because we spend a great on the beach on the weekends and we don't just to lay around on the sand doing nothing.
Carnival is the most famous event of the year in Brazil, where you will watch Samba Schools Parades in the avenues, you will dance and sing, meet thousands of new people, resuming word: fun, fun, fun. The other holidays are religious ones: Easter, Christmas, etc.We also celebrate our Indepence Day on the September 7th and if we can on New Year's Eve, we are on the beach to jump over 7 waves in the first seconds of the new year, all dressed in white because that shall bring luck.
Soccer and Carnival are always the two words releted directly to Brazil. In a way is right, because we are really gut in that, but Brazil isn't only this, it is a very rich country in culture, and we are trying hard to get over our financial problems. What makes me so proud of Brazil is thinking of the people's warmth and good humour, also when they are stuck in troubles. If there's one thing I would like people to know about Brazil it's that there are huge cultural differences in the many states of Brazil. People from Rio think in a different way of the people from Sao Paulo, and from Santa Catarina, and from Bahia. We are not all the same. Remember that Brazil is a big country. So come and see! You won't believe yours eyes.
