Portsmouth is on the south coast of England. It is a lovely place to live being right by the sea. The seafront area is called Southsea, with a very long promenade & a pier stretching out to sea. Ferries sail daily to France & Spain from Portsmouth. Portsmouth is one of the major ports on the south coast of England. We are about an hours drive from London. As we are near many places what with Britain being a small country.
We also have Portsmouth Dockyard which houses HMS Victory, Nelsons warship. Also The Mary Rose, Henry 8th's warship. This was only raised from the sea in the early '80's. With the ship being so old it has to be constantly sprayed with water to preserve the wood. Portsmouth is quite a large city with lots of places to visit & things to do. We have a wide variety of nationalities living in Portsmouth, Chinese, Indian, Italian & probably more. There are plenty of shopping centres to have a look round & while away the hours. There are plenty of places to have something to eat. Lots of restaurants & pubs serving the traditional English food to Italian, Mexican, Chinese & Thai. There are many fast food outlets as you would expect & also plenty of Fish & chip shops. This is a favourite British fast food. The fish has a batter coating, cooked until crispy & golden brown, served with chips (Chipped potato's/fries). People usually put salt & vinegar on to add a bit of taste to the chips.

This is a place called "The Spice Island Inn". This is actually what that part of Old Portsmouth is called, Spice Island. It is so called because many spices were bought in Portsmouth from faraway lands. Spice island is a lovely place to walk round on a summers day. The streets are still cobbled & you can still see the old tram lines on the streets.
The New Forest is not in Portsmouth but about 25 miles away, near a city called Southampton. This is truly a beautiful place to visit. It's a huge national park with lots of places to park cars & go for long walks. Streams run through the forest & there are plenty of places to have picnics. In the New Forest there are plenty of wild horses & ponies walking everywhere. There are also lots of little beautiful villages to look around & have some food.
