Perth, Australia
---this is what western australians are known as by the rest of Australia! Perth is the most isolated city on the entire planet! Many people from overseas nations think that kangaroos and koalas and other native fauna wander our streets, but this is certainly not the case! Perth is the third largest city in Australia and is just as urbanised as other Western cities. Perth has a lovely friendly atmosphere and a lot to do, if you know where to find it :)
To begin with, I would take them up to Kings Park which overlooks our beautiful city and point out the sites from there. Then perhaps I would take them to the beach, our zoo, into Fremantle where I live, to the roundhouse, which is an old gaol when Fremantle/Perth was founded. If my friend had more time I would also take them to our mueseums, art gallery, to our popular pubs and clubs if they desired to see that where I live is very relaxed and friendly, but can also be fast paced.

Beyond Perth, Australia has many popular tourist attractions. The most amazing being the natural wonders that this country has to offer our visitors: Uluru, the Olgas and the Pinnacles, the Daintree rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. There is also the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House over east.
In Australia the most important holidays are New Years Day, which is usually celebrated with family and friends, fireworks and several bottles of wine :) Australia Day - January 26, this is when we celebrate nationally what a wonderful country we have and how we should not take for granted the freedoms we have. There are also the normal holidays of Easter and Christmas. But of course, as we are such a multicultural nation, other religions have their holidays also. What people typically do for fun in Perth depends on the sort of person you are and your interests. Some would think of nothing better than to have a coffee and a nice luncheon on the cappuchino strip in Fremantle followed by a stroll on the Esplanade, others prefer to dance the night away in our pubs and clubs, of which we have many. Children here love to play sports. As we are from a generally warm area, aquatic activities are very popular, so our beaches and rivers are usually well used. Australian Rules Football and Cricket are also very popular.I believe they are popular as they are in our blood and we are, without boasting, a particularly excellent sporting city :)

I think many people see Australia as how Crocadile Dundee portrayed it: hot, dusty and native fauna sprawled over our streets. That may be the case for the rural areas, but our cities are pretty much the same as one in the US, Canada, or the UK. What I really love about Australia is that there is so much to do! We may be isolated but we have so much beautiful contrasting landscapes, many wonderful, friendly interesting people, and this is what makes me proud to be Australian. If there's one thing I'd like people to know about our culture it's that we do not ride Kangaroos! hehehe :) |
