I origionally come from the Northern part of the Ghana but I was born in Kumasi and breaded in Kumasi. Kumasi is a central Business town in Ghana. It is very beautiful with a lot of gold.Hospitality is number one in the heart of the people. They are proud to host somebody to your best satisfaction eventhough they boast alot about their wealth the nature has bewealth them. There is a forest full of elephants, monkeys and lot of wild animals.
As for monuments we have the statue and museum of Dr.Kwame Nkrumah who fought to obtaine Independence for our country from the British. This museum is located in Accra the capital. Kumasi is the second largest city in Ghana and it is also known as the Garden City of Ghana because it's natural beauty and forest reserves. When you get to cape coast is where we have unforgoten history of how the white came into our country enslave our forfathers through to the high seas to the west. Infact if you a through African and you visit the seen and you may cry like a child. But we in Ghana are use to so we don't care and we are even more friendly to the white. Back to Kumasi where we have the statues of the great fetish priest (Okomfo Anokye) who is able to creat a kindom known as the Asante Kingdom. He fetish for a golden stool to decend from the sky which is symbol of unity of the kingdom. When you take a tour to the Northern part of the country,we have the natural chrocodile pond, with friendly chrodiles with whom we play with during holidays. We sit on these chrocodiles and a lot white people come to sit on them for photographs. |
We are very proud of our culture! There are about 10 regions in Ghana and each region has a cultural centre where monuments and history of the various towns and regions are kept. The palaces of the various chief open with elderly people who could answer any question ask by the tourist. At cultural centres there are lots of cultural displays craft and what and so on.
As for Holidays : Independence day is 6th march every year,Christmas,Easter sunday and most of the christian holidays. With the Independence day those in the capital city where the President is living are gathered in the Independence square to listing to president's address to the nation after which others go the beache's,the drinking bars, the theatres and a lot interesting places. While those in the other cities listen to the president on television and also go to various interesting placeses available to them. Christmas day people go to church and after that go cultural deburs, beaches, discos, zoos to have a look at the animals.
We love soccer so much, the youth mostly play foot ball, and drums for fun.whiles the elderly tell the children some folk tales and other stories, either about nature, some legendary and so on. I did not come from a rich family and in Africa if you are poor you are poor.So my childhood was not bad but was not the best I should have. The girls play some local game called "AMPE"it is some kind of jumping game and the other called "TUMATU" it is very interesting to watch them play.and other western children games. In Kumasi where I live, the food mostly cooked there is fufu made from cassava and plantain with palm nut soup,Banku made from corn and kenkey also made from corn.alefu, beto yadewa known as garden eggs all local dishes. But there are lots of contenental dishes for visitors and tourists. My favourite traditional dish is fufu and palmfruit soup.
